Playing in the SANd Box
Take a look at your closets at homeódo you have any space? If you are like most people your closets are brimming with the stuff of your life.
Well, we have similar issues in technology. All of us want to save all our documents and emails, sometimes for personal reasons, other times for business. The crux of the thing is this: storing all that data takes space, lots of space.
In connection with the implementation of VMWare, the ESD also acquired hardware and software called a Storage Area Network or SAN. This hardware and software solution allows our organization centralized storage, centralized management and above all, lots and lots of space, with plenty of room to grow. When needed we can dynamically increase the size of a serverís hard drive or actually reclaim wasted space when the data is no longer required. These may not seem important, but when managing terabytes of data, they quickly become very important.
