Watersheds: Through the Mountain into the Valley

In Partnership with Oregon Caves National Monument

Age Group Served: 5-8th grades

Type of Program: Outdoor Field Trips and classroom presentation

Subjects Addressed: Watersheds, water quality, stream health, geology, scientific method

This program consists of a ranger-led classroom visit and two field trips: one to Deer Creek Center (DCC) and one to Oregon Caves National Monument (OCNM). Teacher led pre and post activities help further integrate watersheds into all subject areas during the school year.

Students will compare and contrast OCNM and DCC watersheds by examining topography, geology and waterways. Students visit the top of a watershed at OCNM and following the water's dynamic journey at DCC. While at these sites, students will conduct water quality tests, practice the scientific method and determine stream health.
