CEFEL Pyramid Model

 

 What is PBIS?

  • A structure for understanding how children communicate their needs through their behavior
  • A system of supports to enhance the social/emotional development of all children
  • A joint effort between staff and families

 

 The "Pyramid Model" was developed by the faculty of the national Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning (CSEFEL). The pyramid includes four levels of practices;

  • The first two levels include nurturing relationships and responsive caregiving; universal practices that are needed to support all children and promote children's healthy development.
  • The third level of the pyramid include prevention practices and targeted strategies and supports for promoting the social emotional competence of children.
  • The fourth level of the pyramid includes individualized interventions that provide support to children with persistent challenges.
