Autism Spectrum Disorder Consultants work in collaboration with school psychologists, speech and language pathologists, parents, and special education teachers in providing coaching, training comprehensive evaluations for students age 0-21. Based on evaluative data, consultants recommend, develop, model, and train district and EI/ECSE staff in a variety of intervention and treatment strategies to address student needs.
Participating counties: Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, and Lake.
Southern Oregon Regional Programs provide Autism Consultation Services to school districts serving students who experience Autism Spectrum Disorders from birth through age 21. Educationally, Autism Spectrum Disorders are defined as having significant communication issues consistent with Autism Spectrum Disorders, significant social difficulties, unusual responses to sensory information, and repetitive patterns of behavior and narrow interests.
Regional Autism Consultation Services can include behavioral assessment and training; staff, family, and individual training; modifications and accommodations; curriculum development; assistance with IEP development; and consultation. Regional Autism Consultants are trained in a wide variety of methodologies and techniques for serving students from early intervention services to transition services. Our region currently has 4 model sites for the state of Oregon which use the STAR curriculum.
Regional Autism Consultation Services are accessed through local school districts and Early Childhood Special Education Programs.
