Special Education Services Director's Message
Just as we educators know that “Learning Matters,” we also understand that “Family Matters.” Especially in special education—where the involvement of parents is a required component of eligibility determination and IEP planning—we believe strongly that partnerships among school, home, and community are essential to student learning and success.
Here is what one special educator (American Idol’s Clay Aiken) learned about a family’s perspective on having a child with a disability: “It’s just ‘He is a child, a part of our family, a part of society and that’s all you need to know about him.’” (Exceptional Parent Magazine, April 2004) This simple yet profound truth drives our commitment to connecting with families.
In this newsletter, we will share some of the exciting and innovative family connections being created every day in SOESD special education programs.
