Preschool Promise Program Year:

  • August 7, 2023 – June 18, 2024

Description: At Kids Unlimited PREKU, we value all children and families and want to provide the best experience for all who take part. Our philosophy is built on a holistic approach to learning, ensuring that the whole child is cared for and embraced for who they are. We value children as individuals and understand that to feed the curiosity to learn, we must support aspects of learning such as social emotional skills, physical well-being, and divergent thinking through play-based learning. Our holistic approach means that families and community will also play a crucial role in our school.

Our program utilizes Creative Curriculum in order to meet the academic and social emotional goals of our students. The curriculumā€™s scope and sequence aligns with Oregonā€™s Early Learning and Kindergarten guidelines.Ā  This comprehensive academic curriculum uses research-based methods to teach and assess 38 different objectives throughout the year. Areas of learning include: Social Emotional, Physical, Language, Cognitive, Literacy, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Social Studies, The Arts and English Language Acquisition.

We value social emotional learning-building important problem solving, self-regulation and social skills. Before we teach children what to learn, we want to make sure they understand how to learn. To do this, we want to provide learning experiences that encourage problem solving in interactive ways. Student focused, hands-on, play based learning are all woven into the thematic curriculum that will be presented throughout the school year.

For most children, preschool is the first exposure to a school experience. As the families of our students, we ask that you be a present, active part of your child’s learning. As educators, we will facilitate learning in a meaningful way and provide positive interactions for your children to cultivate a foundation for learning. Together, with full support from staff, families and community resources, we can encourage curious, compassionate and confident learners.

It is our goal to create meaningful and diverse experiences for all children. Through equitable teaching practices we want to empower each student to be their true selves within the classroom community. We learn and grow from one another, embracing the differences that make us unique. It is our goal at PreKU that we build a culture of not only acceptance for all, but the appreciation and empowerment for all.

Program utilizes social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum or approach (example: Conscious Discipline, Second Step, etc.): Yes

Experience or specialized trainings: Our staff offer many years of experience in Early Childhood Education, and complete more than 20 hours of Early Childhood Professional Development each year. Our Teachers all have obtained Bachelors degrees in Early Childhood or Elementary Education, and our support staff are continuously building on skills through CDA course work, Community Training, and College Courses. Our Director has a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education, is a certified CLASS affiliate trainer and observer, and has over 12 years of classroom and teacher coaching experience.

Other services provided: We offer three meals a day, at no additional charge! Our staff plan and provide enrichment activities to offer during the afterschool program, and we provide Early Childhood Intervention screening and support to referral services. We also offer three family conferences per year, in addition to monthly Parent meetings (via zoom).
