The Distance Learning Community of Practice is a group of regional leaders of online and hybrid schools. If you have an interest in knowing how others in the region are handling the issues your facing, especially when it comes to Distance Learning the SOESD host roundtable forums to support you. This group meets XX and you can join by following this link.

These roundtable conversations are intended to include members from each district’s distance learning programs. We encourage administrators, program leads, plus frontline teachers. These roundtables do not focus solely on fully-virtual programs.

District 3% Cap of students to outside Virtual Charters

OAR 581-026-0305, 2, (b) Does not approve the student for enrollment in the virtual public charter school and provide a copy of this rule and OAR 581-026-0310 to the student and a list of two or more other online options available to the student.

District are required to give two REQUIRED options to families, and a lack of doing so would fall under grounds for accepting the appeal. In strict legal terms districts cannot deny a student access to a virtual education, they can only have a say in which virtual options the family may choose from once they have reached 3%. If a district has their own virtual school and a full-time program, they could restrict it to those, but they have to have two options they will allow the family to attend in their denial to the parents.

  • The region’s CTE Programs of Study (POSs) have been awarded $213,000 in CTE Career Pathways grants this school year.
  • CTE is still growing, with the licensing of six new CTE teachers and the creation of three new Programs of Study.
  • CTE is conducting bi-weekly Career Rea PLC meetings, via Zoom, with all of the secondary and postsecondary teachers.
  • Both CTE grants (Basic and Reserve) have been approved ($708,000), and we are now starting to purchase equipment and arrange PD for all 74 of our teachers.
  • The CTE region is dedicating $33,500 to the mentoring of 11 early career CTE teachers.
  • For the very first time, SOCTEC is collaborating on the purchase of software that will be shared across both secondary and postsecondary curriculum in the Transportation Tech program.

Free access to all students of SOESD-component districts. Learn360® provides access to a web-based digital education video library comprised of thousands of K-12 core-curriculum videos, video clips, newsreels, audio and video speeches, still images, and audio files.  These materials are accessible and downloadable from home or school.  Also Learn360® now has learning games, reading activities and printable fact sheets, diagrams, math activities, etc. For more information contact
