Grow Your Own for Paraeducators

There are numerous pathways to teaching for classified employees in our local school districts. We offer career counseling for paraeducators who are either enrolled in or planning on enrolling in teacher preparation programs. Below are several different pathway options for paraeducators. For district employees with high school diplomas or GEDs

An individual would enroll in a community college or a 4-year university, and continue taking classes until they receive a teaching degree and a preliminary license. This usually takes four to six years to complete.

STEP 1

Enroll in a community college or 4- year university

STEP 2

Enter into a teacher preparation program

STEP 3

Graduate with a teaching degree, and obtain a teaching license

For district employees with an associate’s degree

This pathway is designed for district staff with an associate’s degree who would like to become teachers. This program usually takes two to four years to complete.

STEP 1

Enroll in a community college or 4- year university

STEP 2

Enter into a teacher preparation program

STEP 3

Graduate with a bachelor’s or master’s degree,Ā & obtain a teaching license

For district employees with a bachelor’s
degree

This pathway is designed for district staff with bachelor’s degree (in something other than education) who would like to become teachers. This program usually takes one to three years to complete.

STEP 1

Enroll in a community college or 4- year university

STEP 2

Enter into a teacher preparation program

STEP 3

Graduate with a post-baccalaureate or masterā€™s degree and obtain a teaching license
