Description: Our Mission at KDC is to incorporate a play-based emergent learning curriculum that is child centered and teacher-guided. We use The Creative Curriculum with a Montessori foundational approach. A variety of strategies and modes will be offered throughout the school year using small group and individual learning, thematic, technological, experiential learning and creative arts. We believe that allowing students to take ownership of their learning they will build a positive self-concept creating a love of learning that lasts a lifetime!

We believe in using a child-centered teaching philosophy where our Kids will be Playing to Learn while learning to be: Confident, Respectful, Self-sufficient, creative thinkers and problem solvers. Playing is very important in your childā€™s social, intellectual, emotional and physical development. We will teach all of the children to have compassion and to care and respect others. We believe that children are smart, imaginative and eager to learn and that this is accomplished through kindness, consistency, guidance, patience, teaching, playing and lots of fun! We provide at home activities for families to work on together as a way of incorporating parents into their daily activities.

I do speak English and Spanish and encourage children to speak in any language they are most comfortable with. 85% of our core curriculum is taught in English with the other 15% taught in Spanish. Within our classroom environment we provide a multitude of visuals and manipulatives that incorporate races and cultural practices around the world. We incorporate food and special events from different cultures so that our children are exposed to many different races and traditions around the world.

We want our children to love and respect the world they are in! We provide a cozy home environment with all of the perks of a preschool! Home cooked breakfast and lunch is served daily along with a healthy snack. We encourage kids to eat healthy meals to help them grow and learn. We use Brightwheel for an easy communication system for all families.

Experience or specialized trainings: As the head teacher, I am a licensed elementary teacher with a masters in education. I also have 10 years experience teaching preschool. I have had my own childcare business for 18 years. I am a step 10 in ORO. Our second teacher is a step 8.5 and has been with us for the past 7 years!

Preschool Promise Program Year:

  • September 6, 2023 – May 29, 2024

Description:Ā The Mission of La Casa del Ɓrbol [The Treehouse] is to offer high quality education, and areas of interest have been prepared to provide a safe and comfortable environment with creative and reflective capacity, rich with training and educational experiences, helping in the formation of moral, ethical, and cultural values that help children to develop all of their abilities and talents, keeping in mind the skills and abilities of each child within a framework of rules that promote individual respect and love for oneself, for others, and for the environment. Promoting committed family participation, which contributes to the success of the child, the family and the community.

The Vision of La Casa del Ɓrbol [The Treehouse] is for all children to receive high-quality education in an environment of equity and inclusion, recognizing that each child is singular, and therefore it is necessary to make individualized adaptations to create strategies to support their development, that is, including making adaptations to cover the needs of each one of the children, where there is no prejudice based on their race, language, or beliefs, avoiding stereotypes, valuing these first years of life, promoting inclusion and diversity.

The Philosophy of La Casa del Ɓrbol is to promote the curiosity of every child in a multicultural environment where dignity is provided for their culture, language, beliefs and customs, and in this way the child gets the best performance for his or her development and reinforces his or her own identity. Families are encouraged to collaborate and make suggestions, knowing that their viewpoints will be respected and valued when it comes time to make decisions related to childrenā€™s development, therefore I will make sure to show them empathy and sensitivity. A weekly study plan is prepared, designed with activities to support each child, keeping in mind their abilities and their own interests, with a goal being development in all areas, the observations and evaluations of each child being necessary, as they are the guide for covering all their needs. Play is an important tool for developing self-control and promoting language, cognition, and social competency. Knowing that the important thing is that we teach them to recognize their emotions and provide them strategies to be able to regulate themselves, which is necessary for conscious coexistence, which is to say, helping them to develop respect for the dignity of other people and also respect for their own rights and responsibilities as well as those of others, establishing equal relations and avoiding all types of violence, allowing them to prepare their own rules and thus learn to have good relations and work in collaboration with those around them, and in this way inclusion and respect for diversity arises in a natural manner. In La Casa del Ɓrbol [The Treehouse], we follow a mixture of philosophies, primarily Waldorf, the child is encouraged to love, respect and care for our planet so they can make this connection with the environment.

My educational purpose is to be able to have a positive impact on the life of a child, families, and society, and this is why I make sure not to forget my role and the responsibility I have to deliver high-quality education, and therefore I have to pay attention to the methods that I use in teaching, what I teach and the way I do it, including that the way of evaluation must be in a conscious manner. I have learned that when children have time and materials, they express themselves in their way, freely and at their own pace.

Experience or specialized trainings:Ā I have attended RCC Community College since the year 2012, in which I completed basic education for childcare, and I continue to attend college to this day, regularly taking advanced classes, classes focused on child development, I attend conferences every year and trainings to continue learning more about child development, in this way I prepare myself to provide high-quality care, implementing best practices in childcare and thus being able to comply with the standards indicated by the State. Through the years, I have had the opportunity to provide my services to children of different ages, but in the past year I have only had children of preschool age, meanwhile I continue to be focused on acquiring more knowledge and continuing to progress in quality. I have participated in the Spark program and have received 3 stars. I continue to work to get a 4-star grade and ORO has given me a step 9 qualification.

Description:Ā Whereas Child Development is a continuous process of change that brings the human being to reach levels of maturity in order to become independent, productive, functional, and happy adults.

We declare that every child has the right to receive learning opportunities that stimulate their Comprehensive Development, that respond to their interests and needs. Experience confirms that it is through play that children enjoy and learn, impacting the different areas of development, with special emphasis on attention in social interactions in order to progressively and gradually develop new abilities. Convinced that play develops physical abilities, knowledge and communication, that they become stronger through interaction with other children and adults. Adults make sure to stimulate Social Development in a atmosphere of humanity, respect for individual differences with honesty, the same applies to communication with families.

We use the Creative Curriculum and the project method to develop our learning activities, in addition to continuous observation of our students, to ensure that we provide activities that respond to their individual needs and interests. We register progress both in individual goals for each and every student as well as for the group in general. Our commitment is to provide a stimulating environment that responds to the needs and interests of the children and their families, supporting them in their preparation to successfully navigate within the School System, with respect for individual differences, emphasizing attention in Socioemotional Development. Currently our services are during the swing shift with the intention of serving families that work during this time and which makes it difficult to care for their children.

Description:Ā The children develop their creativity through active play and with the help of the teacher as support and model during the hours of instruction. Our goal is to guide and provide the necessary tools for socio-emotional and educational support for the best academic success possible. Including creativity, exploration and inclusion of all the children as unique individuals and with the exceptional abilities that each of them has, it is a pleasure to watch them flourish and develop as people.

Program utilizes social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum or approach (example: Conscious Discipline, Second Step, etc.): Yes

Experience or specialized trainings: We use the creative curriculum as a basis and as support. In the socio-emotional areas we use another tool, which is conscious discipline, which we incorporate within the classroom and as part of our daily routine.

Other services provided: We create goals with our families to support them during the school year in order to improve the childrenā€™s essential abilities and so they can enjoy preschool education. We provide follow-up and activities based on the needs of any child with any diagnosis or we work with the families to obtain the help they need to support each child as needed.
